Other Learning Experiences

The OLE Team runs mass programmes for the whole form and extra-curricular activities for students to participate in their spare time.

Moral and Civic Education

The Moral and Civic Education Committee

  • nurtures moral values in students at the individual, interpersonal and societal levels through a wide variety of external and internal activities in Class Teacher Periods and Other Learning Experiences lessons,

  • instills in students an attitude to appreciating their unique selves and individualities, and springing from there, an inclination to admire the good in everything and everyone they encounter in life,

Discipline

The Discipline Committee is responsible for monitoring student behavior and conduct. Discipline teachers collaborate closely with class teachers, counseling teachers, school social workers, and different committees to guide students in maintaining high standards of behavior.

Careers and Guidance

The committee focuses on developing students’ career and life planning skills. Various career-related and guidance programmes are organized every year, namely S1, S2 and S3 Career Workshops.

To enhance senior form students’ knowledge of the world of work, different career-related programmes are organised with the help of Hoi Ping alumni. Besides the Careers Day held in May, several workplace visits to alumni’s companies and job-tasting programmes are held.

Copyright

In general, copyright is the right given to the owner of an original work. This right can subsist in literary works such as books and computer software, musical works such as musical compositions, dramatic works such as plays, artistic works such as drawings, paintings and sculptures, sound recordings, films, broadcasts, cable programmes and the typographical arrangement of published editions of literary, dramatic or musical works, as well as performers' performances.

Web Site Evaluation

The World Wide Web offers information and data from all over the world. Because so much information is available, and because that information can appear to be fairly “anonymous”, it is necessary to develop skills to evaluate what you find. When you use a library, the books, journals and other resources have already been evaluated by scholars, publishers and librarians. Every resource you find has been evaluated in one way or another before you ever see it. When you are using the World Wide Web, none of this applies. There are no filters.

Web searching

Free Internet resources are scattered, diffused and dispersed, but sometimes may be very useful. These information and resources can be found by search engines on the World Wide Web. While different search engines have different search capabilities, each search engine has its search guide available on its website. Below are some popular search engines:

Big Six

Developed by Michael Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, the Big 6 can be used whenever students are in a situation, academic or personal, which requires information to solve a problem, make a decision or complete a task (e.g project).
There are 6 stages, but you will not necessarily have to use each one every time in strict order and often you will have to go back to the previous stage.

Task definition (What do I need to do?)

Identify information needed to complete the task.
