Preparing for the Peaks: Training for the Overseas Hiking Expedition 2026

Date: 22/11/2025

The Overseas Hiking Expedition 2026 is a transformative educational programme designed to develop resilience, leadership, and teamwork among S2 to S4 students. To ensure participants are fully prepared for the challenges of climbing Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia during the summer of 2026, the school has organised an extensive 60-hour local training curriculum. This preparatory phase is essential for building the physical endurance and technical expertise required for a safe and successful overseas journey.

During the training held from 21st to 22nd November 2025 at Tin Fu Tsai Campsite and Yuen Long Tai Tong, students immersed themselves in experiential learning that prioritised practical navigation and wild camping techniques. The curriculum focused on mastering maps, compasses, and technical knot usage, while simultaneously fostering a culture of mutual appreciation through collaborative team-building exercises.

Beyond this initial camp, the comprehensive local curriculum includes various sessions held between November 2025 and June 2026. These sessions cover a wide range of specialised skills, including wilderness first aid, sports nutrition, rock climbing, and night navigation. Students also undergo regular physical fitness tests and trip planning workshops to refine their readiness. By weaving these skills together with physical conditioning and environmental awareness, the programme empowers students to overcome obstacles both in the wilderness and in their future endeavours.
