Promotion of Reading

Aims

Reading is important because it develops student’s mind. It is how students discover new things. Reading develops their imagination and critical thinking which are the most important generic skills students should have. With reading, they can go anywhere in the world...or even out of it! They can be a king, or a historical character, or a princess. The possibilities are endless. Non-readers never experience these joys to the same extent.

Ways to cultivate a love of reading in our school

  • Reading weeks and Chinese and English book fairs are organised each year
  • Embedding reading time into the school’s timetable every Wednesday to nurture student’s reading habits
  • Book sharing from teachers and students during morning assemblies
  • Reading award scheme run by the library
  • Library lessons
